We Wish you a Merry Christmas-Verse Only

Students playing this song: (Verse Only!) Emily M., Kate T., Emma N., Ben, Dillon. This is only part of the entire "We Wish" song. The part these students will learn goes with the lyrics: "Good tidings we bring, to you and your kin, good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year." It begins on "Up" Bow, on Open D string, and the bowing continues "Down Up Down Up" with no circles, cookies, or slurs. It will be played multiple times between each Chorus (playing by other students). Listen several times and practice without the video, then try with the video and push pause when you get stuck.

Notes to the Verse:
(D string) D-G-G-G-F#-F#-G-F#-E-D (A string) A-B-A (D string) G-(A string) D (D string) D-D-D-E-A (4th finger on D or open string)-F#-G.

Dreydl-Solo Violin 1

Students in this song: Chris, Jacob, Kate L., Nini, Kennedy. Listen to this song several times before trying to play it together with the video. It moves quickly with lots of eighth notes. Try playing with the video is small chunks, pushing "play-pause-play-pause" every 4 measures or at every circle bow.

Away in a Manger-Solo Violin 1

Students for this song: Chris, Jacob, Kate L., Nini, Kennedy. Long slurs in this song and 1 sharp (F#) in the key signature. Pay attention to the video-watching slurs, and "Up-Ups" (Cookie Bows) that are in all the measures without a slur marking.

Silent Night-Solo Violin 1

Students for this song: Amelia, Emma E., Madison, Bella, Emily F., Cady. Watch for un-even repeated rhythm-"Long-Tee-Ta, Long-Tee-Ta" Watch the entire video before playing together with it. Notice the long, slow bows and practice "air-bowing" with the video to learn the speed of the long, slow bows.

Chanuka-Solo Violin 1

Students learning this song: Amelia, Madison, Emma E., Cady, Emily F., & Bella. This is a traditional Jewish Holiday song that has good staccato and string crossings to learn. Listen to the video all the way through before trying to play together. Remember to play quietly on your violin when you play with the video so you can still hear the video.

We Wish you a Merry Christmas-Chorus Only

The students playing this part ONLY of We Wish you a Merry Christmas are: Amelia, Madison, Emma E., Cady, Emily F., & Bella. I give specific instructions in the video concerning bowing and notes. Pay attention to those instructions and watch the video before trying to play together with it. Remember to play quiet on your violin so you can still hear the video at the same time! As always, apologies for the grainy video quality!

Jolly Old St Nick-Solo Violin 1

This video will help the following students: Emily M., Kate T., Jake, Emma N., Ben, Dillon, Amelia, Madison, Emma E., Cady, Emily F., Bella, Chris, Jacob, Kate L., Nini & Kennedy. Same instructions as Jingle Bells-minus the tricky bowing, this song is much more straight forward, a few slurs (if you haven't learned slurs yet, you will play them as cookie bows), but mostly "down up down up." Again, sorry for the grainy video quality.

Jingle Bells-Solo Violin

This video will help the following students:

Emily M., Kate T., Jake N., Emma N., Ben, Dillon, Amelia, Madison, Emma E., Cady, Emily F., Bella, Chris, Jacob, Kate L., Nini, & Kennedy. When you watch, be careful to pay attention the bowing (a few cookie bows & circle bows) and string crossings. When you play along with the video, play quiet enough that you can still hear the video along with your own violin at the same time to help play together. If you make mistakes and fall behind, no worries, just turn the video off, practice slowly by yourself, then try again with the video the next day! Good luck! Sorry the video is bad quality, it's the only way I could get it to load properly on my computer, I'll try and get the other videos a little less grainy!
